1IN6 - zERO ABUSE PROJECT NETWORK

History:

1in6 was founded in 2007, and their website was created in 2010, in response to a lack of resources addressing the impact of negative childhood sexual experiences on the lives of adult men, one of many under-recognized aspects of childhood sexual abuse. In 2016, 1in6 expanded their mission to include men who experienced sexual assault as adults. In 2024, 1in6 merged with their parent company, Zero Abuse Project, a 501(c)(3) organization committed to transforming institutions in order to effectively prevent, recognize, and respond to child sexual abuse.

Key Information and Services:

1in6 offers a wide range of information and services for men with histories of unwanted or abusive sexual experiences, and anyone who cares about them. Some of their resources include:

  • Free and confidential weekly online support groups for men who have experienced sexual abuse or assault.

  • A wealth of useful information on topics related to male sexual abuse and assault, including answers to common questions.

FIRST RESPONDERS SUPPORT LLC

First Responders Support, LLC is dedicated to providing mental health services to first responders—firefighters, police, EMS, dispatchers, and healthcare workers—who face daily exposure to trauma and critical incidents. Their mission is to support those who serve our communities by offering counseling, trauma therapy through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and education to promote healing and resilience.

EMDR Therapy is an eight-phase treatment designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. By using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, EMDR helps unlock "stuck" memories, allowing first responders to address professional trauma and regain emotional health. Their goal is to equip first responders with tools for ongoing self-care and to thrive in their challenging careers.

Confidential, Private-Pay Services: They offer personalized, confidential support at an hourly rate, payable by cash or credit card. Reduced fees are available—please contact them directly if cost is a barrier to healing. Your healing is their priority.

About Kerrie Murphy, LMSW: With over 20 years as a social worker, Kerrie brings extensive experience in emergency services and trauma therapy. Trained in EMDR and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), she serves on the Mid-West Michigan CISM team. As the daughter of a firefighter and sister to a late firefighter, Kerrie offers deep understanding and compassion to the first responder community. She is also listed with Star Behavioral Health, which is nationwide and supports current military servicemembers as well as veterans.

My story with First Responders Support, LLC: I met Kerrie via some employee resources not long after I had started working for the U.S. Department of State (D0S). Part of the struggle, for me, was I didn’t want to jeopardize being able to serve. But I knew I needed to unpack a lot of traumas after spending a decade in varying civil service capacities (fire, corrections, public safety, fed.). Kerrie really made a difference in my life as my therapist, and I think there is some great utility in EMDR therapy.

If you currently live in Michigan and are currently in the U.S. military, a veteran, a current first responder, or a former first responder; seriously, click the link and get a consultation. I am one of many who benefited from First Responders Support, LLC., and I cannot recommend them enough.

bergman Legal - CSA Toolkit

Bergman Oslund Udo Little is a law firm focused on seeking justice for survivors of childhood sexual abuse, particularly in Washington state. They’re dedicated to helping victims of abuse in juvenile detention centers and other settings by providing legal support to hold perpetrators and negligent institutions accountable. Their mission is to secure compensation for survivors to aid in healing and recovery, while also pushing for systemic change to prevent future abuse. They offer free consultations, work on a contingency basis (no fees unless they win), and provide resources like support groups and advocacy services to empower survivors and their families.

The fine people over at Bergman Legal have put together a guide that outlines what to look out for and how you can help a child in danger. They’re based out of Washington, USA, and I think they’ve put together some very useful and relevant data.
